Sink Your Teeth Into Culinary Medicine with John Wesley McWhorter - Cancering S3EP30

We are excited to share this episode with our guest, Dr. John Wesley McWhorter. Dr. McWhorter is one of the nation's leaders and practicing advocates for Culinary Medicine, a growing field of medicine, behavioral science, nutrition, and cooking that sits at the intersection of delicious food creation, modern medicine, and healthy living. So, we are going to focus on the "why" and the "how" we eat and how it directs our overall and our local community's health. Trust us when we say we are all in for a delicious treat listening to Dr. McWhorter explain this philosophy of good food as a medical movement. Lastly, Dr. McWhorter will share some nutritious and sexy recipes for improving our lunch and dinner menus and what we should be eating, especially during medical treatment, chemotherapy, radiation, and everyday healthy eating, with our family and friends.

Get To Know Dr. John Wesley McWhorter

Dr. John Wesley McWhorter is a native of Fairhope, Alabama, a personal trainer, a CIA - Culinary Institute of America-trained chef, and a certified dietician with a doctorate in public health. He is the director of Lifestyle Medicine for Suvida Healthcare, serves as a national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and is an advisory council member for the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative. A professional chef, Dr. McWhorter focuses on interprofessional nutrition education through hands-on culinary medicine courses. He also is a certified strength and conditioning specialist with experience in fitness and corporate wellness. His research interests include closing the divide between culinary literacy, nutrition education, and policy. In addition to culinary school, Dr. McWhorter graduated from Kansas State University, earned a master's degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, and a doctorate in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science from UT Health School of Public Health.
